Wednesday's BOLD LAW

The great Zig Ziglar told this story about complaining.

On a nice Saturday morning, your neighbor, Bob, rings your doorbell. He's your friend and you naturally open the door to say hello. He yells, "Step aside!", and he proceeds to throw in the messiest, most foul smelling bucket full of liquid slime garbage all over your brand new white carpet in your front living room! Aghast, you shut the door and wonder how Bob has gone off the deep end?

You spend the entire weekend removing the garbage, scrubbing and washing that carpet, you hire expensive carpet cleaning experts to remove the stain, and eventually, the stains and smell are gone. The following Saturday morning, your doorbell rings again and guess who? This time, you look through the peephole and see Bob again. He's standing on your front step with guess what? He's holding another can of garbage!  Are you going to open that door? No way!

As Zig said, "So why do you let the same garbage come into your mind ? You would not open the door to Bob so, why open up the door of your mind to garbage? Whether it's a person, a thought, words or something else, watch out for garbage. When someone is complaining to you , they are "Bob" bringing the garbage into your living room. Physically or mentally, it's all garbage.

Yes, this is a drastic analogy. We all know certain people who are "Doom & Gloom" and they are delighted to tell you their problems. If they truly don't want to be helped and all they want to do is tell their story to someone who gets trapped in a one way conversation, you want to limit your time with them. You can't afford to be "home on that Saturday morning when Bob comes a knocking!"

Now, if you sense that they want help, of course, do your best to assist them. But, if their is a pattern of just bringing garbage, you'll want to politely excuse yourself as fast as you can to protect that white carpet of your mind....you decide.

Complaining = Garbage magnet !
