This week's BOLD LAW " Spontaneity is a conditioned reflex "...Wow, they make it look so easy, so it must be easy, right?
Spontaneity is a conditioned reflex.
What appears to the untrained eye to be so natural, so gifted, and so easy, is really a result of perfect practice done over many years. That practice can be boring and tedious and grueling at times especially when the person doing it starts wondering, is it worth it? Is it really going to pay dividends?
Do you really think Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant ( to name a few) practiced their shots and basketball moves once in a while ?..... Nope, there are legendary stories about how these fierce competitors would train and drill THREE times a day! Think it was always fun?
Tiger Woods did not just practice when he felt like it.
Oh, so because it's not football season, you think Tom Brady is laying on a beach eating potato chips and drinking mai-tais? ( Doubt it )
What about a concert pianist, a Marine, an actor, a musician, or a surgeon?
What they do may look easy. What we don't see is the thousands of hours they put in to practice perfectly, drill and rehearse....over and over and over...with no one watching except for a coach or mentor...and even then, there is a lot of alone time practicing their craft.
That perfect practice makes what they do look spontaneous and natural. The conditioned reflex was honed by at least 10,000 hours of perfect repetition.
Question for you as a salesperson or, whatever you may do for a living....do you drill and rehearse to learn your craft as well as these examples? Or, are you just winging it?
Your business, your clients, and you and your families deserve better. Go practice something today to make it look more like a conditioned reflex.
Spontaneity IS a conditioned reflex.
