Thank God it's Monday !!!...This week's BOLD LAW.... " Spontaneity is a conditioned reflex "
You ever watch a professional athlete , an accomplished musician , a renowned surgeon , a famous actor and say to yourself , " How in the world did they do that ? "....Answer: It was a reflex. It was a pattern. It's a habit. They have been there before...probably thousands of times.
Practice at their craft made it appear spontaneous. It was not spontaneous. It was the result of not hundreds , but thousands of hours of practice. We've all heard " Practice makes perfect " , right ? WRONG !...PERFECT practice makes perfect ! A true professional does not practice until they get it RIGHT...A true professional practices until they CAN"T get it WRONG !!! BIG difference !
A tennis or golf pro spends hours and hours hitting the same shot over and over so that when they need it , it's in their arsenal and they don't have to think about it...they just react and hit the shot that may make them a million + dollars.
How many years does it take a musician to perform live on stage at Carnegie Hall ?
Our surgeons spend years at their " practice "...we want them to make their mistakes on cadavers first, not us !
An actor or comedian or a very good salesperson spends hours practicing what to say by reading their scripts out loud , in front of the mirror and role playing with others and willing to be critiqued by coaches. They know when to say what and when , with perfect pitch and tonality.
All of these are examples of diligent , consistent and perfect PRACTICE , so that when it's needed , it's a reflex that appears spontaneous. To the untrained eye , they marvel at these pros...to those people who ever got really good at anything, you know it takes 10,000 hours to get that " spontaneous ".
Question :....what are you going to practice correctly today ?
Spontaneity IS a conditioned reflex !
