See what George Gillas, a KW NLP MAPS Coach ,has to say about this week's BOLD LAW....

What if you could tame the monkeys … instead of fighting them?

You can tame the ‘monkeys” in your mind through meditation. Meditation has been proven to lower brain activity and encourage calm, peaceful thoughts.

If you already meditate regularly, good for you. You know and appreciate the benefits. If you don’t, you may want to look into it as a way to calm your mind and gain more control during those stressful times when your mind wants to race.

There is a technology available to help guide you into meditation. Look in your app store on your phone and search “binaural beats” apps.

During normal waking time, like right now, your brain is operating In Beta wave frequency of 14 to 30 Hz. Alpha wave frequency of 8 to 14 Hz dominates introspective moments. Theta waves of 4-7 Hz occur when you experience unexpected, dreamlike and vivid images and Delta 0.5 to 4 Hz are indicative of deep sleep, dreams and being unconscious.

Binaural beat apps work by placing tones of slightly different frequencies into each ear (you must wear a headset or earbuds for this to work), forcing your brain to lock in on the difference. As an example, if you want to slow down to the point of Alpha waves for a deep meditation, you may receive a signal of 220 Hz in one ear and 230 Hz in the other. Your brain “locks in” on the difference of 10 Hz and eventually syncs to that frequency. And before you know it, you are in a meditative state (Alpha wave of 10 Hz).

I am not going to recommend any particular app. Like any other app, look for one that has lots of reviews and test it out. Keep in mind, you must be willing to give the process 20 minutes or so and be willing to close your eyes, be comfortable, and relax into the process.

These apps can also be utilized to boost concentration when working on a task, help with sleep, anxiety, focus, etc. The technology has been around for years and it is free of side effects…

With the advent of binaural beats readily available at little to no cost, you simply have no excuses to work towards taming what Buddha called “the monkey mind.”

If we can utilize technology to “kick start” our meditation – why not?
