Friday's BOLD LAW...from KW MAPS Coach George Gillas...

How you participate here is how you participate everywhere.

Does this mean you act the same way around your family… around your kids … as you do with clients or prospects? If you are mirroring a very excited first-time home buyer and getting pumped up with them; should that be the same behavior when you are at home helping your second grader with her math homework… or your spouse when discussing a serious topic?

Does “how you participate – how you ‘show up’” refer to your overt behavior or to your inner values and display of integrity? Is it possible to turn up or turn down parts of your personality and still be you? Are you still in integrity by doing that?

How would you do that? What does that look like to you? Would it be unreasonable to assume that all of us magnify or minimize aspects of your personality based on the situation and/or the people we are with? The challenge is – are you being your true self…

“This above all: to thine own self be true…” – William Shakespeare (Hamlet)

If you ever read or listened to Zig Ziglar, this may be familiar to you: “For every sale you miss because you were too enthusiastic, you’ll miss a hundred because you weren’t enthusiastic enough.”

These seem contradictory, don’t they? What if you aren’t the “enthusiastic” realtor? How can you be true to “thine own self” and act in a way that seems out of character?

Understand enthusiasm does not mean excitement. Some synonyms are keenness, eagerness, warmth, zeal, passion… Can you display the necessary amount of enthusiasm and zeal when with a client, then come home and tune it down to be calmer as needed… and still be you?

What would change, and perhaps make this BOLD law easier to adapt, if you think in terms of you being like music on the radio. The song stays the same regardless of the volume… sometimes you turn it up to rock out and sometimes you play it softly to not wake the baby… but the music is unchanged.

Be you. Always. Adjust the volume as required. Life is easier when you play your song.
