Friday's BOLD LAW

You can have reasons or results, and you can’t have both.

Like any “law” there are exceptions, and this BOLD law has exceptions too. If you’ve been involved in something serious like an auto accident, death of a family member, fire or natural disaster then, I think we can agree, these are reasons and not excuses.

Would it be fair to say that this BOLD law focuses more on the day-to-day excuses people conjure up to justify why they didn’t do what they said they would do?

If you didn’t do lead gen for a couple days because you were laid up in a hospital bed – that’s legit. If you didn’t do lead gen because your spouse’s friend’s second cousin twice removed is in the hospital… well, maybe not so much.

What can you do to make sure that you do more of what you say you are going to do?

Here are some thoughts

Consider – How important is the task/action to you. Really… Does it contribute to your Big Why or does it detract from it?

Have you defined your Big Why? You can’t get too far in anything that Gary Keller has written without being faced with the challenge of defining this for yourself. (MREA pg. 72)

Does your calendar reflect your values – do the things on your calendar move to satisfy and fulfill your Big Why? If not – why are they on your schedule?

How practiced and confident are you to saying ‘no’ to distractions? Do you succumb to the dopamine hit when you solve someone else’s problem or are you disciplined enough to go for the big hit when you close your own deals?

Are you after an immediate feel-good or can you delay satisfaction for what matters?

When your drunk monkey starts telling you why things won’t work, what if you challenge yourself to find 5 “what if it DOES work out” instead scenarios? After all, there are nearly endless possibilities, aren’t there?

How do you want to be remembered? What does it mean to you to be a person of your word? “When ____ says it will get done, it gets done!” is a wonderful reputation to have. Don’t you agree it’s better than, “Don’t give that to ____ h/she will promise a lot and rarely deliver…”

Let your integrity be your motivator. Say ‘no’ to distractions. Say ‘yes’ to things that contribute to your 20% activities. Do fewer things with greater effectiveness and feel good about the change.
