You teach people how to treat you.


People learn more from observing behaviors than they do from what they are told. Your behavior speaks volumes – without you saying a thing. And your behavior is always consistent with your emotional state.


How do you act when feeling optimistic… enthusiastic… powerful… in control? Contrast that with your actions when you are feeling negative…  lethargic… weak… in chaos. How you act is a reflection of your feelings, and your feelings are at the direct effects of your thoughts.


If you want to “teach people how to treat you,” start with having the thoughts that will support the emotions which determine your actions.


Thoughts à Feelings à Actions à Results. This is the way things typically happen in our brains… so get control of the thoughts.

It’s easier than you think. One of the most common traps people fall into is thinking, “What if it doesn’t work?”  or some other fatalistic process. What if, since you’ll be thinking anyway, you simply remove the “n’t” from the thought… “What if it does work?”


What if they are home ?… what if they do want to list ?…. What if they will accept the offer ?… what if they are a cash buyer ?… what if they have a referral ?… what if they will sign with you?.. what if…???


If you’re going to “what if” why not choose to what if with a potential positive outcome?

What does this have to do with teaching people how to treat you? Who do you know that is persistently negative? Do you know someone who constantly points out why an idea won’t work? Do you have a “negative Nellie” in your circle?


Or… did you used to have a person like that in your life and then decided to distance yourself from them ? Was it because they were trying to get you to think the way they did? How were they attempting, through their behavior, to teach you about how to treat/see them?


We consciously pick up on the words and language people use. And 93% of communication is non-verbal – that means the majority of your communication is unconsciously picked up by others. If your thoughts are negative, it doesn’t really matter what you are saying because the actions that happen as a result are many times more influential than the words you use.


Get your communication congruent. When your optimistic thoughts produce energized feelings expressed in positive what-ifs… people will be inspired by you and treat you accordingly.
