Friday's BOLD LAW from KW MAPS Transformational Coach George Gillas.....

Don't compare your insides with other people's outsides !

 

In the world of sales, it’s easy to get into the comparison game. This is true in any sales company – not just for real estate sales. When commissions are involved, standings are posted, and awards doled out; it’s common to think that someone else “has it all together… just look at them…”


Who has the bigger house… the nicer car… the more expensive suit… the better jewelry… the larger investment portfolio… more rental doors… etc.


At the end of your life – will more listing transactions really matter?

I’ve been around salespeople all my adult life. And I love salespeople because they are, for the most part more optimistic, animated, intelligent, thoughtful, caring, generous, warm-hearted than most people you’ll ever meet.


And then there are some who just act the part. You’ve met them. They look and sound like everything in their world is shipshape. Nothing out of place. No stress. No arguments. No worries.


Then you find out the ‘perfect couple’ just went through a nasty divorce. Or they lost everything because they were overextended financially and went bankrupt. Or some other event shattered their lives…


As a Transformational coach with MAPS, I sometimes have the honor of working with a client who wants to find, or better define, their ‘Big Why.’ I’m in that process now with someone – but we’ve chunked it up for him to answer this question, “What is your purpose in life?”


That’s a big question. It’s bigger than ‘why’ because it encompasses more than the short term. ‘Why’ can and will change over time. Your purpose, when done with enough careful and deliberate thought, will not change over time. And with that defined, so many decisions become easier.


As part of the exercise, I had him imagine being at the end of his life… and with his family around him, contemplate what he wanted to leave them with. What lessons did he want to teach his children – that they may pass on to their kids? What warm memories will he have as he fades to the other side? Will they be of closing more deals or will they be of quality time spent – invested in his relationships? Building a bigger house or building a legacy based on love?


When you are clear on your purpose and you are fulfilling it, at some level every day, you don’t have any interest or time to compare yourself to others in any way. Because all that is important… all that matters is being true to yourself and those you love.
