Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change
If you are like many agents (at least some of the one I coach) your preferred activity is being in the process doing real estate transactions. You love helping people either buy or sell real estate.
You enjoy the interaction, problem solving, negotiating, and getting that final “yes” to close the deal; regardless of which side you are on.
I have a hat that reads, “Dogs make me happy. You, not so much.” I think sometimes Realtors feel similarly about numbers – “not so much.” How can we see this in a new way?
Last week I had a coaching call with a numbers resistant client. We all know, logically, that numbers are the language of business. Do we know how to speak and interpret that language?
Here is a general summary of our call. It shifted how he sees things:
GG: When was the last time you had a physical?
Client: I just had one last week… and my PSA numbers came back really good
GG: Your PSA …. What?
Client: the numbers…
GG: Congratulations. When your doctor gives you a physical, he probably does a blood panel, right?
Client: Of course
GG: And how does the blood panel measure your results – what does the doc look at on the report?
Client: Numbers – I guess…
GG: You guess or you know?
Client: I know…
GG: So numbers tell you and your doc how healthy you are, is that correct?
Client: at this point he sits back and smiles… I get it now. Numbers tell my health – and number tell me the health of the business…
GG: Your business can’t send you a text and say you need three more listings or you need to honor your calendar. Your business’ language is numbers. The question is. is your business screaming in pain, whimpering in discomfort, or excited about where it is today and where it’s going?
Client: I never thought of it that way
GG: And your doc know there is a range called “within normal limits”… if you are too high or too low he’d describe actions to take or write a script, wouldn’t he?
Client: Yes… and it’s the same here (business) – I have a whole new way to look at this now… and I’m excited to talk with my business in a better way…
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change. How can you change something today to see it in a different way? To see something that, perhaps, you never saw before? What is your business telling you?
