Friday's BOLD LAW from KW MAPS NLP Coach George Gillas....

Just yesterday I had a coaching call with a client, and I could tell within 60 seconds that something was off. Have you ever gotten that “vibe” from someone… even if it’s over Zoom?

Communication is mostly (93%+/-) non-verbal, right?


As we dug into it he told me that he’s feeling “apathy… lethargic… lazy…”  Would I be wrong in assuming these aren’t exactly the emotions we want if we’re planning to have a productive day? My guess is that you’ve had days, or at least times, when you’ve had similar feelings. I sure have… welcome to humanity.


So how do we go about changing this? Do we need a cool ninja-like NLP intervention? Seek medical or psychiatric advice? Meds? Triple-shot cappuccino? Or is there a simpler, more proven technique we can utilize?

One of my all-time favorite quotes is from William James (the “Father of American Psychology”) who wrote: We do not sing because we are happy. We are happy because we sing.

What does this mean to you? … “we are happy because we sing.”


As I understand and interpret this, it means that feelings follow actions. If you take the actions of being happy (singing) you will eventually be happy. This is different from BOLD’s PTFAR model, isn’t it?

Understand that the human mind does not work in linear fashion. It is multi-dimensional. PTFAR: Programming leads to Thinking leads to Feelings leads to Actions leads to Results is a well-documented model. Do we always go in that order? James’ quote suggests otherwise, doesn’t it? We do not sing (Action) because we are happy (Feeling) we are happy (Result) because we sing (Action).


Let’s make it simple… the easiest way to change your state (of mind) – is to change your state (of physicality).


Or… get up and move your butt!


Think of what you are going to do. Take action – move, exercise, walk, play with the dog… do something. Feel different as a result of the chemical changes in your brain. Get new results. And take more actions.


Motion = Emotion. And No motion = emotions you likely don’t want.

Decide. Act. Maintain. Succeed.
