Friday's BOLD LAW from KW Coach George Gillas.. " Logic makes them think, emotion makes them act " ... Two out of three ain't bad !
Some people need to gather a large amount of information before they take action. Only in doing so will they feel ready to decide or act. Others need very little data before they can make a decision because once they read the ‘bullet points’ they have enough to act.
Both situations above are perfect – if that is the way the person is wired. Logic (cognitive mind) makes them think; emotion (affective mind) makes them act presumes there are only two parts of the mind. In fact, there are three…
Your conative mind (conation) is the part of you that defines how you do things. It contains your natural striving instincts for how you allocate your time and energy … it is your natural MO (method of operation) and can be quantifiably identified.
The interesting thing about this part of your mind is that there is no good/bad, better/worse way of doing things. And, we know from many years of test-retest analysis that, unlike cognitive and personality assessments, the conative mind does not change over time. It is predictable over your lifetime.
All decisions start with emotion – you have to want to do something to even invest the time thinking about it. Then, your mind defaults to your conative strengths – your natural instincts. Do you need to learn more? Do you need to organize the project and see how it fits? Do you need to explore options and push ‘outside the box’? Do you need to get ‘hands on’ and show or be shown how it works?
The next step is to utilize your logical mind and cognitive awareness to take the action.
So yes… logic makes you think and emotion makes you act. Just remember that people will have different processes before they act. Some will ask lots of questions – because their instincts tell them to. Others will look for options or try to short-cut the process. And they are all correct.
One of the best ways to recognize these differences in people is to learn more about yourself because when you know you, everything else is everything else. There’s more information about conation here: https://georgegillas.com/do-more-more-naturally/ .
If you click on the link, it’s because your curiosity has been tickled (affective mind) and you want to learn more (cognitive mind)… which one caused you to decide to take action?
