Friday's BOLD LAW

Dive into the deep end – or wade in from the shallow side?

If you do what you’ve always done, how can you reasonably expect the results to differ? There is no line of logic to expect that things will change. The only reference point for a person who does things the same way expecting different results is one of victim – or being at the effect of the world around them.

In other words – they are looking for things to change in the outside world so their same actions can yield different results. This isn’t a very solid plan for being in control because for the result to change, one has to admit that it’s not them who is responsible for the end result.

Change comes easily for some, harder for others. And change can be had by anyone once they admit they don’t like where they are and that they’d like things to be different. Without these two realizations , it’s the same activities/same results over and over.

I’ve noticed there are two types of people when it comes to making changes.

There are the “Tony Robbins Massive Action” folks who go all out – all the time at full force because they know that doing a little at a time won’t work for them.

Then , there are the people who build on small wins. They’d rather change one or two small activities, experience the new results and success; and then layer more change on top – a little at a time.

Either way works. The idea is to know that:

You don’t want the same results any longer

You know what you want instead

You will take some action to get there (either massive or small)

You utilize the momentum you have started to keep it going

Rinse. Repeat.

Don’t get fooled into thinking you have to change big – fast – hard – massive action to succeed in making new habits. Habits form in small incremental steps over time. The great news is that we can create new habits in 66 days (on average) and then even faster habits as our mind accepts that new is good.

“Gradually then suddenly” works for building new habits too. Decide what you want. Do a “gut check” on whether you are a “dive into the deep end of the pool” or “wade in from the shallow side” kind of person. Then take the appropriate action. Do it today.

Because as Barbara Sher writes: It’s only too late if you don’t start now.
